Apostille for a Ukrainian criminal record extract

Apostille Centre helps prepare a Ukrainian criminal record certificate or extract for use abroad. We start with the recipient’s requirements: the document type and format, whether an apostille is needed, and how to arrange translation. We have provided legal services since 2008 and consider your circumstances and the possibility of remote preparation.

Is an apostille always required?

No. The process depends on the destination country, applicable international agreements and the receiving institution’s requirements. Do not order an apostille simply because the document will be used abroad. For a visa, citizenship, residence or employment, check the particular recipient’s requirements first.

Which extract should you obtain?

Full and shortened extracts contain different sets of information. Confirm which type the recipient requires. The official Diia service page explains how to obtain an electronic document independently.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs publishes a requirement for a paper original bearing a signature and seal for its apostille procedure. Check the official Ministry instructions; a printout of an electronic file should not automatically be treated as a suitable replacement for the original.

What to check before preparation

  • The country, institution and purpose of submission.
  • Whether a full or shortened document is required, in paper or electronic form.
  • The recipient’s requirement for how recently the document must have been issued; we do not apply one validity period to every procedure.
  • Consistency of names and other details with your passport and name-change documents.
  • The translation language and required certification.

Translation and certification

An apostille and a translation serve different purposes. Once the requirements are clear, we agree the sequence, whether the apostille itself needs translating and the accepted form of certification. Notarisation or an additional apostille is not required in every case.

If you are abroad

Tell us whether you already have an extract, when and in what form it was issued, and where you will submit it. If names differ, your surname has changed or a new document is needed, we can discuss possible next steps. Before you send originals, we agree the documents, representation requirements and delivery arrangements.

We agree the cost, estimated timeframe, fees, translation and certification after review. Any urgent option is discussed separately. Preparing a set of documents does not replace checking the receiving institution’s requirements.

Important: the electronic extract issued by Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs cannot be apostilled or legalised by consular means. If an apostille is required, confirm whether a paper extract can be issued in the required form. Check the current procedure with the Ministry’s official portal and verify the recipient’s requirements separately. Information checked on 24 October 2026.
