Double apostille

“Double apostille” commonly refers to preparing an apostille for the original document and a separate apostille for the notarial certification of a translation or copy. It is not a universal requirement for every document sent to a particular country.

What to check before you start

  • Does the original document need an apostille?
  • Will the institution accept a translation prepared in Ukraine, or does it require a translator in the destination country?
  • Does it require notarial certification and a separate apostille on that certification?
  • Do you have the receiving institution’s written requirements?

Requirements for an educational document and a civil status certificate may differ. Clarifying the procedure before work begins helps avoid unnecessary expense.

How to agree the preparation process

  1. Tell us which document you have, the destination country and the receiving institution.
  2. Share the recipient’s requirements, if available. We will clarify the necessary sequence: original document, apostille, translation, certification and an additional apostille only where required.
  3. Before you order, we will agree the scope, cost, applicable fees and delivery. The availability of urgent preparation is checked for the specific document.

General information about the Convention, competent authorities and participating countries is available in the official HCCH Apostille Section. Confirm translation and document package requirements with the institution receiving your documents.
